Hendrik was honorably discharged from the Royal Netherlands Navy in 1949. He arrived in Fremantle accompanied by his Australian wife & 2 daughters. A son Colin Hendrik was later born in Donnybrook. Hendrik established a market garden in South Coogee and later moved to East Fremantle where he and his wife lived for 40 years.
