George Abner Letch, wife Caroline and children; George, Maud, Florence, Mary & Constance, after arrival lived lifelong in WA. He was to join his brother Alfred (already here), in business. This didn't eventuate and he established a school in St. George's Terrace named “Mr Letch's Academy for the Sons of Gentlemen”.

The Ivy departed Shadwell Basin, London on Tuesday 31st October 1871 at 1:45 pm. The only passengers onboard were the Letch family, according to George Letch’s diary of the voyage. The voyage took just over 4 months, the Ivy arriving at Fremantle on the 18th February 1872.

George Abner was my great grandfather and Caroline, his daughter was my grandmother. Unfortunately, the family was not all that close and i barely knew any of my grandmother's siblings. Neither did I know until just after 2000, that Alfred Daniel Letch, George's brother, had been sent out to WA as a white collar crime convict.
