After arrival in Fremantle, Zyg worked for the government for 2 years on the Railway in Narkan. We lived in a tent near the railway line. We saved carefully and bought a block of land in Belmont and shifted the tent on our land once the contract finished. Zyg worked in many different jobs until he passed the exams needed to find work in the Commonwealth Public Service. We had 4 children and built our own house in which we moved in 1954. We still live there today. Our children live in Perth and we are all happy to call Australia home!!

I am trying to trace my parent's arrival in Australia. They came out as war refugees on 25/7/1949 with one son Edward Waldermar who would have been 1 ish, on the boat Amarapoora
They went to Graylands Hostel as there was a wharfie strike on at Fremantle and did not get to their designated destination in the Eastern States. Dad worked on the Railway lines for several years and hated it. His name was Stanislaw and my mother was Leokadia and they had two boys, my brother and I. They bought a block of land in Lathlain Park and moved in during 1954.Dad studied at night school, passed his exams and became a draughtsman.
This sounds very much like the story above for Zygmunt.
If by chance any of his family read this I would appreciate some form of contact. Thankyou in anticipation.
