Arrived Australia with one suitcase. Could speak three languages (Croatian, Italian, German) but no English. Authorities would not recognise his plumbing trade qualifications initially. He was the first migrant plumber to obtain a plumbing licence and went on to be President of the Master Plumbers Association and life member. Married in 1935, raised 4 children. Extended family includes 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren when he died.
