William Frederick Jones is said to have been a Ship's Officer and visited WA on trading ships prior to being convicted (3809) of 'uttering a forged five pound note' in England. He was transported for 15 years. Employed by William Forrest 1861-71 as the Master of the Picton School. He married Rose Ann Briene, an Irish migrant, rearing a family of five.
