Ron came to Australia to attend school, later joining the National Bank. At 31 he volunteered for the army and fought in New Guinea. He returned to banking and married Mary Stevenson. When their son Bruce was born, Ron joined his father-in-law farming at Kojonup. He enjoyed tennis and golf.
