Fernando was offered work in Australia by Mr Coli, an Italian who recruited a lot of young Italian men to work in his sawmill in Darkan. He met Caterina Biagioni through her brother Emilio, a workmate. They married in 1961, in Perth. They have 2 sons, Paulo and Stefano.
