Nicki arrived with her uncle to be with her dad, leaving her mother and sister back in Macedonia. She worked as a grocery store assistant in Subiaco until she met Steve Karapetcoff in 1951 then married him and moved to Geraldton as primary producers. They moved back to Perth in 1971. They have four children.
