Howard also became a builder. After serving in the Boer War, returned to UK & developed a building business in Herefordshire. Herbert, the eldest son joined the army after service in France during WW1 & became Lt Colonel. He lived many years in Sydney. His son Rupert also a Lt. Colonel served in the Artillery and saw service in WWI and in WWII when he was in charge of the batteries at Rottnest Island.
