John Horrigan arrived from Ireland in 1850. Mary Horrigan (nee Maloney) arrived 1859 on the Hamilla Mitchell. John would have left just after the Great Famine when so many Irish emigrated to Australia (lucky for their descendants).

  • As the great grandson of John and Mary i have some doubts as to the date of Johns arrival in WA. his gravestone gives his age as 51 years at his death in 1890, which would realise he was 11 years on arrival. family records show nothing of his arriving with parents, it would appear more likely he arrived somewhere around the time of Mary, the how is mystifying unless he jumped ship. Mary initially married Michael Gorman who passed in 1861, John then married Mary under her maiden name in the same year.
