Worked on a number of farms. Was a blade shearer. 1916 married Alma Elizabeth Sophia Rogers. 1916 purchased first block of land £ 3-12-6 per acre. Ended up with 4300 acres west of Beverley. Four children, Frederick John, Gladys Salina Victoria, Clarence Andrew & William Herd.
