My father, Ernest Hipkin and his family migrated to West Australia due to his chest problems - assured of a more favourable climate here. He had been offered a position as a pharmacist with Sargent - Chemist in York WA - where they were for a year before settling in Fremantle where Ernest managed Parry's High St pharmacy until his death in 1932.

  • In 1927 William Ellacott arrived at Fremantle and spent a day as the guest of Mrs Hipkin(s).I think this must have been your relative. Young Ellacott was on his way to Melbourne and had a letter of introduction to Mr Hipkin. Mrs Hipkins took him all over Perth looking at the gardens and public buildings, providing food - chiefly a wonderful variety of fruit, and was kindness itself. With them was her little boy Kenneth. Ellacott walked to their home in Grasmere High Street from the ship Orama in April 1927
