John Hilhorst served 14 years in the Dutch Navy including 8 years on submarines. John met & married Scottish born Ellen in 1944. They had 2 children, Myra (born 1945) & John (born 1947). John senior arrived on "Volendam" in 1948 & family followed on "Chitral". Family finally settled in Waroona.
