Arrived alone aged 16 with only 10 pounds. Became a land owner at 19 and is considered a pioneer of East Hyden. Now owns 6 1/2 thousand acres of prime farming land, all of which he had to clear from virgin bush. Married a Scottish migrant & has 5 children.
