Served in British Army at Gallipoli, the middle east and France. Unable to settle back to life in England, emigrated to WA. Delivered mail on horseback to wheat belt towns, while waiting to take up virgin land at Babakin. In 1929 he married Evelyn Purdie, great granddaughter of Helen & John Scott (first settlers in Bunbury). Survived the Depression but left his farm to serve with AIF in country WA. After the war worked in administration at the University of WA until his death in 1960. A gentle, patriotic, scholarly man.
