"Charlie" Guyton, a well educated Ex-Royal Marine & son of a Trawler Skipper from Great Yarmouth arrived in Fremantle 3/2/1923 aboard the SS Berrima. Paid his own passage and on arrival took up timber clearing in the Kulin District under contract to the State Bank. For 3 1/2 years he lived in a tent in the bush depending on rabbits and kangaroos for meat. Supplies of tea, sugar, flour etc were received infrequently by rail from Boans and picked up from the railway siding. There were no handouts in those days. Married in 1937 to Jessica Ross and had 2 sons.
