Began work as an attendant at Fremantle Asylum (now Fremantle Arts Centre). He transferred to new Mental Hospital in Claremont in 1909. Became Farm Manager in 1929, until he retired in 1950. Throughout these years he won many awards at the Royal Show for the Illawarra Shorthorn Cattle raised on the farm.
