Cleto worked as a woodcutter and log hauler in the timber industry. With 2 partners he founded Timber Traders Cockburn in Hamilton Hill in 1966, moving to Spearwood in the 1970's to later become Worldwide Timber Traders. He retired in December 2001. He married Maria Tavasci in 1955 and has 4 children.
