Samuel Grotten migrated to Australia on a 2 year contract with Sandwell and Wood to build houses in Willagee. In December 1952 he married Katharina Rammacher. They lived in Fremantle before purchasing a property in Melville where he lived until he died. They raised two daughters, Anny (Sefton) and Erika (Jardine).
