At 21 decided to leave England and come to Australia alone. He knew no-one, but met people on the ship, lining up a job in WA. Went to the outback to work on a farm in really harsh conditions. Met future wife, married and had 5 children. Worked for Wesfarmers as self-taught mechanic & Stan Perron, then own business. First visit back to England was 40 years later. Never saw his parents again.
