Ernest left Birmingham in 1890, travelling on the 'Orient' to Albany, where he worked for the Great Southern Land Company, before becoming a Steam Engine Driver in 1896. He was chosen to drive the train for their Majesties, the Duke & Duchess of York from from Albany to Spencer's Brook in 1901. Ernest was Albany's no. 2 member of the Grand Lodge of WA. Retired to a property at Lower King until his death in 1958.
