He was in Parkhurst Prison (unknown why), indentured three years to Charles Wittenoom. After pardon, self employed clearing at James Brook & Toodyay. Engaged ticket of leave men. Married Mary Cashman, Perth 1854 and they had three children.

John was convicted to 7 years transportation at 16yo in Central Criminal Court in London of stealing , with an accomplice,a pair of used boots. He was held in Parkhurst for 3 years then transported on the Orient along with 50 other juveniles to Fremantle.
