  • I think John married Anne or Annie Leaf rather than Leab .. note "Parents" were Thomas and Mary Ann. Thomas and Mary Ann went to South Australia with their youngest Maria Sultana ("Tana") Gardiner presumably when the other kids were settled in WA. Tana married Otto Bockelberg in Adelaide in 1876.

  • Descended from Stephen Gardiner (GGF) through his daughter Elizabeth who married James Munday in Guildford.

  • Easy to see how little errors creep in. So that (Vasse publican) partly explains the Busselton connection for Elizabeth and James Munday.

  • John Gardiner is my great, great grandfather.
    - The Sultana was a convict ship and John's father Thomas was a 'Pensioner Guard' on the ship.
    - Interesting it appears the entire family journeyed to Australia on the convict ship and John's younger sister Sultana was actually born on the voyage and named after the ship.
    - John's wife (Anne Leaf) was married previously and her maiden name was Forrest, daughter of Gaven Forrest and Mary Swan (maiden name) who may have built the Vasse Hotel.
    - John & Anne's son Evanhugh from Busselton was shot twice at Galippoli and then appears to have be shipped to England to recover from his wounds and then sent to fight again in France.
