Father George, Army band Sergeant, East Lancashire Regiment. Bought poultry farm at Llandilo, near Penrith. Involved in developing local bands. Mother Elsie, a pharmacist, worked in Blue Mountains as locum after poultry farm failed. Lived to 100 years.
