Beatrice Fleet was born in the county of Durham in 1910 and arrived in W.A when she was 18 years old seeking a better life. She worked on various farms and outback properties as a domestic and also at the old Mount hospital. She married Guiseppe Portelli, a professional fisherman, and had three children, Antonio, Josie and Christopher.
