Gaetano arrived in Australia in 1969 accompanied by his mother Franceschina, father Michele and 3 brothers. They travelled to Australia to be reunited with his 2 sisters and 1 brother who had already settled in Perth. Gaetano married Rosa Cannone in 1983 and have two children Angela and Michael.
