Robert was a stonemason with Richard Lewis, contracted to build the Round House, Fremantle. Was granted the leasehold to Cantonment Hill (Fremantle Signal Stn) by Governor Stirling for proving the use of limestone for burning to lime. Robert paved the streets of Fremantle with Portland stone slabs.

As a family member, I recognise that Robert Ferres settled, excavated, built on, and benefited from, stolen land, and that buildings such as the Round House facilitated the unjust imprisonment of Aboriginal people. For this, I am deeply sorry.
I acknowledge the Whadjuk people as the traditional custodians of the beautiful land and waters we now call Fremantle. I pay my respects to Elders past, present, and future.
