My father came to Australia with a small son, Robert. His wife had died. Married my mother and worked on the WA Gov. Railways. Was never out of work and worked right up until his retirement. Always lived in WA. Was transferred to Manjimup, Caron, Mt Magnet and finally East Perth. He rode a pushbike to work rain, hail or shine.

  • Very interesting as I believe this James is my daughter's great grandfather who left two other sons, [Nelson 1922-1983 her grandfather] and William, in Limavady when he emigrated to Australia after his wife died. I think this was fairly common at that time when men were widowed young and had several young children to care for.
