In 1917 while nursing at a London Military Hospital, Lily Cookson met Arthur Downing from the 32nd Battalion. Arthur was sent there twice to recover from injuries and gas poisoning. They fell in love and were married. In 1920 Arthur brought Lily home to WA. They had three wonderful sons.
