Battista tried to open a pasta factory in Fremantle, but Australians at the time were not interested in eating pasta. He moved to the Western Australian Goldfields and married Agnes Martin of East Coolgardie in 1906. They moved to the mining town of Broken Hill in NSW in 1908.
