At 17yo Matteo arrived in WA and briefly worked cutting wood for the Kalgoorlie Mines. At the outbreak of WW2 he was interned at the Harvey Prison Camp (between 1940-42).After his release he went south to the Manjimup area and established a saw mill. Tragically his death there in 1949 left a young wife (Elsie) and son Matthew behind.
