William (John) Dedman arrived as a Pensioner Guard in charge of convicts. He joined the British Army at age 17 yrs and served in India before coming to Australia. He married Harriet Woodman in England in 1847. They had 2 sons; George Joseph (b 1856 in Bunbury) and William (b1857). She died in 1905.
