Celeste was born in Osigo, the oldest of 4 children. In 1948 his uncle Vittorino who was already settled in Perth decided to sponsor Celeste to come to Australia for a better life as things were tough in Italy just after the war. He had met Candida Celotti in Italy, who was to travel to Fremantle later in November 1949 and they were married in December 1949. They went on to have 2 daughters, Leni and Flora. Sadly Candida passed away suddenly in 1999. After he settled in Perth, his aunty Paolina had said “as your name is Celeste (meaning ‘Blue'), we will call you by an Aussie name -'Bluie'!”. That name has stuck with him for all these years.
