Born in England, Mary Bishop married William Curtis on 29/9/1782 at St James Westminster. William, a carpenter, died when their five children were very young. Mary sold his tools & opened a shop. Her son, Anthony Barnabas Curtis established himself in Fremantle & sent for his mother & sister. A woman of courage & strength she died the oldest person in the colony & was buried in the Alma St Cemetery.
