Alice's husband Nicolas Joseph Crofts had already arrived in Fremantle on the ship Gneisenau with other son Bert in 1910. They came to Australia as Nell had consumpton and the doctor ordered a change of climate. One other son Nicolas Sydney remained in South Africa working.
