Survivor, despite injuries, at age 14 of Weaver Street atrocity in Belfast, 22 February 1922. Bomb thrown among catholic children playing in street. Perpetrated by Ulster Special Constabulary against catholic children. Reported to Winston Churchill (colonial secretary) 4 dead children and 2 adults. William's (Bill's)father had died three years previously from Spanish (USA) Flu. Widowed mother and family fled Belfast to Cairncastle, Co Antrim.
