Read their story

Elizabeth Cockram (nee Buckingham) her two brothers, (Thomas & John) & their families travelled together from Devon. Richard Cockram & brother-in-law, Thomas Buckingham cut a road between Gingin & Wanneroo & built pug-walled cottages for settlers in both these areas. Richard Cockram purchased land at Gingin, built a 2-storey home which became a hotel. Son Edmund moved to Champion Bay where his daughter Betsy (our grandmother) was born. We were told she was the first white child born at the Greenough.

  • I have published a book called Albert Edmund Cockram King of The Racecourse 1870-1945 which has much WA and Cockram history. Albert Cockram was the Son of Edmund and the above were his grandparents. I can be contacted on mcsweeney@iinet.net.au
