Upon his arrival in Perth Umberto worked where-ever he could, labouring etc, until he became a chef, the trade which he had worked at in Italy. He went on to become a very successful restauranteur for 35 years. He retired in 1996 & now enjoys playing lawn bowls at Mt Lawley Bowling Club & managing his various investments.
