Escaped to sea aged 14 yrs and arrived in Fremantle on the JORDONHILL in 1910. Deserted ship on arrival and went to Cuballing. Married Anna Hansen in 1915 and moved to Yournaning. Raised 11 children. Retired to 22 Hansard St Narrogin in 1960. Both are buried in the Anglican Cemetery in Narrogin.
