Ralph was the son of Herbert Childe and sailed to WA with his mother 1 year after Herbert. His parents divorced but Ralph stayed with neighbours for his schooling. Ralph was an original pupil of Bilbarin School which opened in 1916. Ralph worked the farm with his father, a pioneer of the Bilbarin district. Ralph served with the Royal Australian Air Force during WWI.
