We were in WA last year starting in Perth and we visited a friend in Freemantle, who by chance took is to the docks (for some lunch) I stumbled across the Welcome Walls entrirely by chance and it struck me that Eric Chart (my mother's cousin) may well have arrived via Freemantle as his daughter (now deceased) lived in Perth. I started looking at the walls and there was so many in no discernable order so I gave up and went to join the others. And then I had one last look and there it was. It felt so strange, this family connection back in time. Eric, I understand, worked very hard and built a life. I know at one time he worked at the saw mill in Hakea as I found a letter from his brother who came to visit him when his daughter was a baby.
