Worked as an apprentice to Lt. Henry Bull in Upper Swan, and later as a Shepherd in the Leschenault area near Bunbury. Gradually acquired own flock and settled in Preston Valley near Lowden, pioneering a property there. Sons founded the apple industry in WA.
