Pietro came to Australia to join his father, Ilario who had immigrated earlier. He settled in Hamel near Waroona, but moved around the south-west from time to time, wherever there was work. He lived in bushcamps and earnt a living digging potatoes. He came to escape the poverty and war-torn Europe and for a better future.
