Life in a Sicilian town was difficult and lacked opportunity. Francesco planned to immigrate to Germany, however was persuaded by Zio Giuseppe Fogliani to join him in Perth. He travelled to Perth 5 weeks after marrying the girl next door, Rosa Ridolfo, brought up 3 children, Rosario, Maria and Antonio.
