At age 17 arrived in Fremantle unaccompanied to be reunited with father Carmelo. Worked clearing land in the wheatbelt. Sponsored his brother and 3 sisters to Australia. In 1948 married Margherita Sicari and opened boot making retail stores firstly in Cannington, then Inglewood and Wembley.
