As 1938 saw anti-semitism threatening Polish Jewry, Chona married Leja, then migrated alone to Perth. Sponsored by an aunt, Leja followed in 1939. Chona's family were all killed in WWII. Australia gave him the opportunity to have a family of his own and to live a peaceful life.
