Myself & my father arrived in Fremantle 1949. While walking down the gangplank with a double-bass and drum kit (we were both musicians), derogatory remarks were made from two wharfies - “Gawd Blue - look what they're sendin' us now!” and “Betya can't get that under yer chin mate. Ha! Ha!”
