In Manchester 1939, Thomas Burns married Winifred Drake. During the war Thomas served in Egypt as a sergeant in the Royal Artillery and Winifred welded Lancaster Bombers in Manchester. Later, Thomas worked at Bredbury Steel Mills, Stockport, and, after emigrating, at the Power Station, Bunbury.
