Schoolmaster at Holt, Wiltshire, then manager of the Athenaeum Institute in Bristol. Came to WA to join wife's cousins (Stevens). Appointed schoolmaster at Toodyay and then Newcastle. Managed James Drummond's flour mill until 1873. Then schoolmaster at Swan Orphanage. Retired to Avondale a Toodyay Vineyard run by son and nephew.
