Sylvanus came as a convict from England, after being sentenced to 10 years transportation for theft of a silver watch. He married Mary Wallace in York in 1857, they had six children. In 1859 received a Conditional Pardon. In 1860's worked as an engineer in Perth. Sylvanus died in Jarrahdale.
